About Us

We are very grateful that you took time out of your day to visit our website. If you have been a customer, we hope you have enjoyed your purchase and we are humbled that you chose us to provide a gift for your loved one.

We are Jay and Sheri Bykerk, the owners of The Dutchturner. We are both the offspring of Dutch immigrants. Jay is the one of the second generation born in the US (still conversant in the Dutch language) and Sheri is one of the third generation born in the US. Our business began in 2020, the year after our retirement. Jay is a retired farmer and agri-busness manager. He attended Purdue University with an emphasis on agronomy and human resources. Sheri holds degrees from Calvin University and Purdue University and is a former elementary teacher with 25 years of teaching experience. The initial products that we produced were all turned on a lathe, hence the name The Dutchturner.

When Jay retired in December of 2019, we expected to be doing a lot of traveling.Unfortunately, Covid hit the following spring and travel didn't happen. We purchased a lathe and other wood working equipment and Jay started producing unique items of wood art. We love designing and creating new pieces and meeting new people at the various markets we attend.

Our creations have shipped to many countries; Singapore, Japan, Germany, the UK and Spain.

Our Mission Statement

Our mission at The Dutchturner is to showcase the intricate beauty of God’s creation as we use various woods to create unique gifts for our customers. Each of our designs are one of a kind pieces as we strive to highlight the various colors and grains of the woods and epoxy resins that we use. Lastly, it is our hope and prayer that you are satisfied with your purchase.
